The Hanafin-Cooley Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann founded The Traditional Music School in 1997 to give Boston area students a traditional Irish music school that represents the highest standards of professional musical instruction in the traditional instruments. The school has been blessed to be affiliated with the Irish Studies Program at Boston College and the Celtic Department at Harvard University.
Classes are available on Fiddle, Flute, Whistle, Uilleann Pipes, Anglo Concertina, Button Accordion, Harp, Guitar, Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Singing and Bodhrán for two 10-week courses held at Saint Columbkille Partnership School. Classes are assigned by student level, with limited class enrollment. In addition, we offer an audition based competitive Ceilí Band!
Under the direction of Executive Director John Kearney, Director Lisa Coyne and Hanafin Cooley Chairman Larry Reynolds, the CCÉ Boston Music School was founded for the express purpose of preserving and cultivating the rich cultural treasure that is traditional Irish music, by providing the opportunity for students at all ages and levels to develop their skills under expert instructors.
